École élémentaire catholique Marie-Soleil brings a new French-language Catholic elementary school to Avalon West, supporting continued family growth in Orléans. HEIN, as General Contractor for the Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est, delivered the two-storey building, which combines structural steel and glulam timber construction on pile-supported concrete foundations to create a purpose-built school environment that brings learning, childcare, recreation, administration, and outdoor activity spaces together on one site.
Located at 300 Sweetvalley Drive near Tenth Line Road, the school occupies a prominent corner within a growing residential community. The building was planned with clear access for students, staff, families, and visitors, with the main school entrance, daycare entrance, parking, bicycle parking, and site circulation organized from Sweetvalley Drive. The site plan also includes a bus lay-by, daycare yard, playground, outdoor classroom area, sports field, and space for future portable classrooms.
Inside, the school includes classrooms, administrative areas, staff spaces, a library, a multipurpose room, a gymnasium, washrooms, support spaces, and dedicated childcare areas. The daycare component includes activity rooms and related support spaces for infants, toddlers, and preschool children, allowing the building to serve both elementary students and younger children within the same facility.
The building exterior combines masonry, curtain wall, glazing, metal siding, composite aluminum panels, and coloured panel elements, giving the school a bright and welcoming presence along Sweetvalley Drive and Tenth Line Road. The site work and landscape design add play areas, planting, pedestrian connections, fencing, and outdoor education space, helping the school function as a complete neighbourhood facility.
Completed in 2026, École élémentaire catholique Marie-Soleil adds important education and childcare capacity in Ottawa’s east end. For HEIN, the project represents the delivery of a full new-build school facility, balancing building construction, site coordination, outdoor learning areas, daycare requirements, and future growth considerations for a developing community.
