Senior Estimator (Ottawa, ON)
Location: Ottawa, Ontario
Salary Range: $100,000 to $150,000, commensurate with experience

About the Role
As Senior Estimator, you will lead the preparation of accurate, competitive bids for institutional and commercial construction projects across multiple delivery methods, including publicly funded lump-sum tenders and construction management. The role also includes developing proposals and preparing budgets throughout the pre-construction process.
- Review drawings, specifications, and project requirements to define scope, clarify issues, and identify risks and opportunities.
- Prepare detailed and conceptual estimates, including quantity takeoffs, self-performed work, subcontracted work, general expenses, margins, and fees.
- Solicit, analyze, and reconcile subcontractor and supplier quotations to ensure complete and competitive pricing.
- Develop preliminary budgets, cost plans, control estimates, and value-engineering strategies for construction management and pre-construction projects.
- Prepare construction management proposals covering project approach, scope, pricing, schedules, and value-added solutions.
- Develop preliminary construction schedules with input from project teams and trade partners to price time-related activities.
- Lead estimate reviews, tender closings, submissions, post-tender clarifications, and negotiations.
- Collaborate with clients, consultants, internal teams, and trade partners throughout estimating and pre-construction.
- Lead and coordinate responses to requests for qualifications (RFQs) and requests for proposals (RFPs), ensuring submissions are complete, compelling, and aligned with client requirements.
- Maintain current labour, material, and historical project-cost data to support future estimates and business-development opportunities.
As a senior member of the estimating team, you will apply strong construction knowledge, attention to detail, and sound judgment to every bid. You will also lead major pursuits, mentor colleagues, and influence the projects HEIN wins and delivers.
About You
- 7+ years of relevant construction estimating experience
- Strong knowledge of the ICI construction sector
- Experience with publicly funded, lump-sum projects is an asset
- Ability to interpret drawings and specifications, assess scope and risk, and prepare accurate, competitive estimates
- Strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers
You are a positive, team-oriented professional who can independently manage complex bids while collaborating effectively with project teams. You are proactive, solutions-focused, and committed to high-quality work. You also enjoy sharing your knowledge and mentoring less experienced estimators within a supportive team environment.
Intermediate Estimator (Ottawa, ON)

About the Role
As Intermediate Estimator, you will help prepare accurate, competitive bids for institutional
and commercial construction projects, with a primary focus on publicly funded, lump-sum tenders.
Working with experienced estimators and project teams, you will contribute throughout the estimating
process while continuing to strengthen your technical and commercial skills.
- Review drawings, specifications, and project requirements to understand scope, identify risks,
and clarify issues. - Prepare quantity takeoffs, detailed estimates, and complete bid submissions.
- Solicit, review, and compare subcontractor and supplier quotations.
- Support value engineering and cost-optimization initiatives.
- Assist with estimate reviews, tender closings, clarifications, and negotiations.
- Collaborate with estimating and project teams to deliver complete, competitive pricing.
- Support the preparation and coordination of responses to requests for qualifications (RFQs)
and requests for proposals (RFPs), helping ensure submissions are complete and aligned with
